ARMI Postdoc Launches Decoding Longevity, A New Anti-Ageing Science Podcast

How do we slow down ageing? Can science help us live longer, healthier lives? And what if this knowledge was available to everyone — not just scientists?

That’s the driving idea behind Decoding Longevity, a brand new podcast cohosted by Dr Macsue Jacques, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Eynon Group at ARMI and Dr Raghav Sehgal, from Yale University. Together, they’re dedicated to unravelling the mysteries of ageing through clear, engaging conversations for anyone curious about the science of how we stay well as we age.

“We created Decoding Longevity to open up the science of ageing in a way that’s both accessible and deeply engaging — we wanted it to feel like sitting in on a conversation between curious minds, not a lecture,” Dr Jacques explained.

Each episode breaks down the latest research papers in the field of geroscience, offering clear, insightful discussions on longevity, biological ageing, and the quest for extending healthspan.

“The podcast was born out of a need to bridge the gap between longevity research and the broader public,” Dr Jacques said. “A lot of people are interested in healthy ageing and there is a lot of hype in the media, but unfortunately there is also a lot of misinformation out there.”

“To combat this we are bringing the latest, rigorous research in longevity science to a general audience.”

In their first episode, Dr Jacques and Dr Sehgal discussed the economic value of targeting ageing, asking: “What if slowing ageing could save trillions of dollars and improve millions of lives?”. They delved into the numbers and real-world implications of investing in ageing research, and how extending healthspan by just a few years could help the global economy save trillions of dollars.

In the subsequent episodes, they explore the key aspects of ageing and its biomarkers, discussing advancements in the field and emphasising actionable measures we can adopt, both now and in the future, to enhance not just lifespan but also healthspan.

For Dr Jacques, the podcast is an extension of her mission as a researcher and communicator. At ARMI, her work uses advanced computational tools to explore how and why we age — and how we might age better. But beyond the lab, she’s passionate about demystifying science and making it more inclusive.

“We’re standing at the edge of one of the greatest scientific transformations of our time, and this podcast is our way of helping people step into that future.”

Decoding Longevity is perfect for scientists, enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the science behind living longer and healthier lives. It highlights the dedication of ARMI scientists to making science accessible, and sharing their important work with the world.
