Two researchers from the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) have been awarded Light Microscopy Australia (LMA) Professional Development Fund Awards, recognising their contributions to microscopy-enabled research and supporting their participation in leading national scientific conferences.

The awards have been presented to Oliver Anderson, a PhD student in ARMI’s Zenker Group and Dr Hongbin Jin, a Research Fellow in the same laboratory. Both researchers use advanced imaging approaches to investigate fundamental questions in developmental and regenerative biology.

LMA is a special interest group of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society (AMMS) that promotes excellence in light microscopy, imaging technologies and professional development across Australia’s research community.

The LMA Professional Development Fund Award provides valuable opportunities for researchers to expand their expertise, establish new collaborations and engage with the broader scientific community. For researchers whose work relies on advanced microscopy and image analysis, access to major conferences is an important way to remain connected to the latest scientific and technological developments in their fields.

Oliver Anderson will use his award to support attendance at the Australasian Society for Stem Cell Research (ASSCR) 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting, one of the region’s leading conferences in stem cell and regenerative medicine research. The meeting brings together researchers from across Australia, New Zealand and around the world to discuss advances in stem cell biology, developmental biology, bioengineering and regenerative medicine.

Dr Hongbin Jin will use his award to support attendance at the annual conference of the Society for Reproductive Biology (SRB), Australia’s leading professional society dedicated to research in reproductive and developmental biology. The conference brings together scientists, clinicians and students working across fertility, embryology, reproductive health and developmental biology.

Dr Jin’s excellence in microscopy has already been recognised by the imaging community when he received a ResearchHub Foundation grant through the Biomedical Imaging technologies funding scheme.

By supporting attendance at major scientific meetings, the awards will help Mr Anderson and Dr Jin expand their professional networks, share their discoveries with the broader scientific community and bring new knowledge and ideas back to ARMI.

Their success highlights the institute’s commitment to excellence in stem cell biology, developmental biology and cutting-edge microscopy-enabled research.
