ARMI welcomes new Deputy Director, Strategy and Planning

The Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) is excited to announce the appointment of Dr Marguerite Evans-Galea AM as Deputy Director, Strategy and Planning.

A scientist, executive leader and advocate with more than 25 years of experience across research, strategy and national collaboration, Dr Evans-Galea brings exceptional insight and vision to this newly created role. She joins ARMI from AusBiotech and Medicines Australia, where she served as Director of the Cell and Gene Catalyst, supporting the growth of Australia’s advanced therapies sector through national coordination across market access, manufacturing and workforce development.

“I am delighted to be appointed the Deputy Director, Strategy and Planning with the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI). The Institute is an internationally respected centre of excellence in regenerative medicine and advanced therapies, and it is an honour to join such an impactful organisation within Monash University.”

Dr Evans-Galea will work alongside ARMI’s scientific leadership and governance bodies to lead the development and implementation of the Institute’s strategic plan and vision, and drive sustainability and growth, supporting  ARMI’s mission to accelerate innovation and discovery in regenerative medicine.

“I’m thrilled to work with the standout researchers at ARMI at the forefront of regenerative medicine. The science here is collaborative and future-focussed, and the leadership across the Institute is deeply committed to making a difference.”

With a scientific career grounded in gene and cell therapy research, Dr Evans-Galea has led preclinical research programs focused on inherited diseases at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the United States and at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Australia. She brings first-hand experience of the full research-to-impact pipeline and understands how discoveries move from the lab into clinical practice, market and public policy.

“With a strong foundation in research, particularly in cell and gene therapies, my personal driver is to help people living with debilitating diseases by ensuring research can translate to knowledge, product, practice and policy. I’m excited to apply my knowledge and expertise in my new role, supporting ARMI scientists to discover and develop highly specialised advanced therapeutics.”

Dr Evans-Galea has also held national leadership roles in strategy and workforce development, including with the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), where she directed flagship STEM programs supporting career pathways and sector growth.

A passionate advocate for equity and inclusion, she co-founded Women in STEMM Australia, completed the Women in Leadership Development (WILD) Program, and currently serves on the Advisory Board of Business Women Australia and as a Non-Executive Director with Melanoma Patients Australia.

“I’m passionate about creating environments where researchers and teams can thrive, where growth is enabled, mentoring is prioritised and collaboration drives impact.”

Dr Evans-Galea’s strong network across research, industry and government, along with her people-focused leadership approach, will help position ARMI for long-term success. She will begin her role on 25 August and looks forward to connecting with colleagues and collaborators across the Institute and beyond.

Reach out to Dr Evans-Galea to welcome her or explore future collaborations. ARMI is energised for the journey ahead, with Dr Evans-Galea’s vision and leadership shaping our next chapter.
