STRATEGY 2030

Transforming health through scientific excellence

Australia’s only research institute solely dedicated to regenerative medicine has set its strategic direction to 2030. The plan sets out how we will advance new therapies for injury, disease and improved health as we age.

The plan sets out how we will scale our science and deliver regenerative therapies to the people who need them. Our ambitions are bold and will advance new therapies for injury, disease and improved health as we age.

OVERVIEW

A five-year strategy for research, translation and impact

ARMI Strategy 2030 accelerates our effort to move regenerative medicine discoveries from the laboratory to the people who need them: scaling our R&D pipelines, deepening clinical translation pathways, building the workforce the sector needs, and cementing our position as Australia’s only research institute solely dedicated to regenerative medicine.

The strategy was developed following comprehensive internal and external reviews of the institute and deep consultation, and is directly aligned with Monash University’s Impact 2030 and the Monash Research and Enterprise Plan 2026–2028. It is structured around six strategic pillars.

OUTCOMES

By 2030, ARMI will:

The strategy was developed following comprehensive internal and external reviews of the institute and deep consultation, and is directly aligned with Monash University’s Impact 2030 and the Monash Research and Enterprise Plan 2026–2028. It is structured around six strategic pillars.

Goal 01

Advance a therapeutic to a first-in-human clinical trial. This is the clearest measure of translational impact – moving a therapeutic from our own R&D pipelines into clinical trials.

Goal 02

Increasing PhD enrolments to directly address the workforce gap that remains one of the sector’s most significant constraints on growth.

Goal 03

Secure two major programmatic grants. At least two large multi-investigator grants across different research themes, demonstrating scientific depth and collaborative scale.

What we are here to do

VISION

To transform health through scientific excellence and world-leading research, education and innovation in regenerative medicine.

MISSION

To lead a globally renowned regenerative medicine pipeline to discover, develop and translate advanced therapies through interdisciplinary collaboration and world-class education in research and biotechnology, empowering society and increasing public understanding and trust in regenerative medicine.

VALUES

Excellence and impact in all we do, scientifically, collaboratively, operationally and culturally.

Trust, respect and integrity through transparency, accountability and inclusion of colleagues.

Creativity and joy in the pursuit of scientific questions and collaborating with others.

Leadership and collaboration are core priorities in our research, partnerships and programs.

Curiosity and mentorship are integral to our science, education, operations and culture.

Growth and sustainability are our collective commitment and responsibility

STRATEGIC PILLARS

Six pillars, one direction

Each pillar addresses a distinct dimension of ARMI’s mission, from the discovery research that drives innovation, to the global leadership that amplifies our impact.

Pillar 1: Scientific excellence and impact. Discovery research that asks bold questions in regenerative biology: the foundation for every other commitment in this strategy.

Pillar 2: Regenerative medicine research and development at scale. The systems, relationships and infrastructure that move ARMI’s science from the laboratory into development pipelines.

Pillar 3: Clinical translation of advanced therapies. Structural partnerships with clinician-scientists and hospital partners to translate preclinical research into first-in-human clinical trials.

Pillar 4: World-class education and development. Training the researchers, clinicians and industry professionals the regenerative medicine sector needs: now and into the future.

Pillar 5: Sustainability and operational excellence. Diversified revenue, optimised infrastructure and the operational foundations that make sustained scientific impact possible.

Pillar 6: Global leadership. Extending our international networks and positioning Australia as a credible, high-impact contributor to the global regenerative medicine field.
