Biography

Dr Jessica Greaney completed her PhD in the Christopher Chen Reproductive Biology Laboratory with Professor Hayden Homer at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research in 2020. Her doctoral research investigated the role of the cytoskeleton in oocyte maturation, employing live‑cell time‑lapse confocal microscopy to visualise the dynamic process of polar body extrusion.

In 2021, Jess was recruited to the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute at Monash University as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Associate Professor Jennifer Zenker. Here, she has built a research program using light‑activated optogenetic tools to precisely manipulate the cytoskeleton in early embryos and stem cells. Her work seeks to understand how cellular architecture contributes to cell identity.

Jess is also passionate about fostering collaboration within the scientific community. She co‑organises the Developmental Biology Conversations seminar series with colleagues at the University of Melbourne and the Monash Micro Imaging Advanced Imaging Seminar series. She also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research students.
