Biography

Dr Mafalda Pimentel is a Research Technical Officer in the William Roman Lab. She supports research investigating how skeletal muscle cells communicate and organise to build functional tissues and repair damage.

Mafalda completed her PhD in Molecular Cell Biology at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular in Lisbon (Portugal), where she studied how nuclear positioning contributes to mRNA organisation in muscle fibres. She later conducted postdoctoral research at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência in Oeiras (Portugal), focusing on centrosome regulation in differentiating skeletal muscle cells.

In her current role, she applies her expertise in molecular and cell biology, and advanced imaging-based approaches to support projects investigating muscle development, regeneration and cell–cell communication using engineered muscle models of disease and ageing.
