ARMI Welcomes New Group Leader A/Prof Fabrice Jaffré

The Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) is delighted to welcome Associate Professor Fabrice Jaffré as our newest group leader. A/Prof Jaffré brings exceptional expertise in cardiac research and regenerative medicine, strengthening ARMI’s position at the forefront of cardiovascular research.

A/Prof Jaffré’s distinguished career began at the Sorbonne University in Paris, where he completed his PhD investigating the role of serotonin receptors in pathological cardiac hypertrophy. His academic journey then led him to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School, where he made significant contributions to understanding hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in RASopathies using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). His innovative research earned him the prestigious Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association.

Prior to joining ARMI, A/Prof Jaffré established his independent laboratory at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, where he continued to advance our understanding of cardiac development and disease.

At ARMI, the Jaffré Lab is dedicated to unraveling the molecular mechanisms behind congenital heart defects and cardiomyopathies in children with rare genetic disorders. His laboratory employs cutting-edge technologies and approaches, including human iPSCs, cardiac directed differentiation, CRISPR genome editing, multi-omics analysis, 3D organoids, and engineered heart tissues. This comprehensive toolkit enables his team to develop sophisticated developmental and disease models with the ultimate goal of discovering new therapeutic approaches for children affected by these conditions.

His current research is supported by the Additional Ventures Single Ventricle Research Fund Award, recognizing the potential impact of his work on understanding and treating congenital heart defects.

We look forward to the valuable contributions A/Prof Jaffré and his team will make to ARMI’s research community and the broader field of regenerative medicine. His appointment further strengthens our institute’s commitment to pioneering research in cardiovascular health and regenerative medicine.
