Global connections as easy as ABC
Leading regenerative medicine and developmental biology researchers from Australia, Brazil and Chile are meeting this week in Campos do Jordão, Brazil as part of the ABC Network.
Created to broaden networks and strengthen relationships between research institutions from the three countries, cutting edge research from the Australia-Brazil-Chile (ABC) Network will be presented at the 3rd annual ABC Regenerative Medicine and Developmental Biology Symposium across four sessions:
- Genetic and molecular control of development and organogenesis
- Nervous system development and regeneration
- Stem cells and disease
- Molecular control of muscle development
ABC Network stronger together in Brazil
ARMI Director of Research, Professor Peter Currie — presenting the plenary conference at the event — congratulated the ABC Network on the ongoing international partnership.
“This type of cooperation is invaluable to building momentum behind research,” he said. “Leading institutions working together means the best thinking and resources focused on achieving things we couldn’t imagine alone.”
Synergies are also at play in the business of science, with teams across the 3 countries joining forces to apply for research funding to pursue common goals. Dr Mirana Ramialison, Research Group leader and ARMI’s academic lead for the ABC Network activities says the Network also provides a unique competitive edge for grants and research proposals.
“This is the type of robust collaborative network that speeds up science.” Dr Mirana Ramialison
“Leveraging complementary research capabilities and infrastructure is a practical way institutions involved in the Network see a tangible benefit,” she says. “This is the type of robust collaborative network that speeds up science.”
Real life connections for an international network
Professor Hernandes Carvalho, director of FeSBE, the Brazilian society that is holding its annual conference said the ABC symposium, a satellite event of the conference, is an opportunity for Network colleagues across the three countries to interact and strengthen productive research relationships.
“The symposium underpins other activities like staff and student exchanges, collaborative projects and joint journal publications.” Professor Hernandes Carvalho
Professor Carvalho explained, “The symposium underpins other activities like staff and student exchanges, collaborative projects and joint journal publications. Sharing our scientific expertise in person helps us keep the Network thriving and engage the next generation of scientific leaders in regenerative medicine and developmental biology.”
The 2019 ABC Regenerative Medicine and Developmental Biology Symposium is a satellite event of the annual FeSBE conference which runs from 9-10 September in Campos do Jordão, Brazil.
