New ARMI Director Announced: Professor Peter Currie to take the lead

After an extensive international search, Professor Peter Currie, current Deputy Head of ARMI has been appointed to the role of ARMI Director.

Professor Currie received his Ph.D. from Syracuse University, New York, USA. He undertook postdoctoral training in zebrafish development at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now Cancer Research UK) in London, UK, before establishing his independent laboratory at the UK Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh. In 2003, he moved to the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney before making the move to Monash to take up the position of Deputy Director of the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) in 2008. Peter is an NHMRC Principal Research Fellow and runs a world-leading laboratory on skeletal muscle development and regeneration. His laboratory is extensively funded by the NHMRC and ARC as well as a number of charities. His work is published in the best journals, and last year he won the Eureka Prize for Research.

Through his role as Deputy Head of ARMI, as well as being past President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Developmental Biology, Peter has gained extensive leadership experience that makes him an ideal appointment for the Directorship of ARMI.
