Everyone loves a giant cheque

To end 2016, ARMI celebrated its first ever crowd funding for Muscular Dystrophy research – with a cheque presentation.

ARMI partnered up with the crowd funding team Charidy to successfully beat an initial target of $10,000 while fundraising for a new qPCR machine late last year. The crowd funding campaign relied on three generous ‘backers’, who matched every dollar given by the general public.

Any concerns the money would not be reached were quickly dashed – the $10k target being reached within two hours of the campaign launch.

ARMI received two additional generous gifts during the campaign, the first being from Muscular Dystrophy Australia, who came in once the $10k target was reached with an offer to be a new backer for the campaign until the new target of $15k was reached. The second was received from Bio Molecular Systems (pictured below), the makers of the qPCR machine, who said if the  $15k was reached, they would donate a second machine to the research group.

The result of the 24-hour campaign was a total donated amount of $16,955 – $10k of which will be used to buy the first qPCR machine and the rest for essential supplies.

The other exciting presentation on the day came from Bio Molecular Systems, pictured with the donated qPCR machines.

All eyes are now on 2017, with the launch of an MS Campaign, more to come shortly.
